ABSTRACT

A modern city is a large artificial ecosystem with complicated relationships between various components. The continual increase in population is the principal characteristic of an urban ecosystem. The historical experiences and lessons have gradually made people aware of the importance of a better urban living environment for public health, urban production as well as the daily lives of inhabitants. The problems of the living environment in Huizhou mainly come from the unreasonable energy structure and resource waste. ‘Ecological planning’ is a kind of planning method which is guided by the national land planning and regional planning. Although ecological planning is just a new method of solving the problems of urban and village planning, it has a long history as a kind of academic thought. In order to face the challenges of the changing urban situation, it is necessary to carry out ecological planning for the city of Huizhou.
