ABSTRACT

AGRICOLA is produced by the National Agricultural Library of the United States Department of Agriculture and has been available since 1970, making it one of the earliest publicly available databases. Since 1984 it has also incorporated the records of other cooperating North American institutions such as the American Agricultural Economics Documentation Center and the Food Nutrition Information Center. AGRIS is produced by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations from the collected input of over one hundred national and multinational centres worldwide. The Commonwealth Agricultural Bureaux is a United Kingdom-based organization, administered and financed by its twenty-nine member governments. It has produced printed abstracts covering different agricultural subject areas, and produces over fifty of these. In a research environment questions often spread beyond the farm gate to include, for instance, animal, insect and microbial pests of agriculture, and the impact of agriculture on the environment.
