ABSTRACT

Presenting Symptoms: The patient was a 35-year-old male with complaints of depressed mood, anxiety, initial insomnia, restless sleep, irritability, increased emotional sensitivity, anger outbursts, anergia, seclusive-ness, fear of leaving the house, belief that people were staring at him and degrading him, and anhedonia. His girlfriend had left him four months earlier because of his suspiciousness and distrust of her-symptoms that the patient reported had been present for many years. Depressive symptoms were precipitated by the breakup with his girlfriend. He denied auditory and visual hallucinations. He also denied suicidal or homicidal ideation, intent, or plan; drug and alcohol abuse; and caffeine intake. He smoked two packs of cigarettes per day. He denied any previous psychiatric treatments and any family psychiatric history.
