ABSTRACT
In this chapter we provide an overview of the major process simulators and describe the basis of their structure. as well as their operating principles. Next, three packages are depicted: CHEMCAD, ASPEN HYSYS, and ASPEN PLUS with examples from flowsheeting of major processes (including methanol production or a power plant) to distillation columns and heat exchanger design. The final section details how optimization is carried out with modular process simulators and includes an example.
