ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an Introduction to Computational Fluid Dynamics for undergraduate students. The theoretic principles of this method are initially described in this chapter, providing a complete understanding to the conservation equations for laminar flow and a brief introduction to turbulence. The chapter is complete with a theoretical and practical description of the simulation procedure. The procedure does not only provide a basic guide of good practices during the processing, but also the pre-processing and post-processing stages are presented with additional references for the students. The practical cases are described using two of the most popular software tools in the area. First, two examples of laminar flow in mixers and reactors using COMSOL Multiphysics are prompt. Second, a multiphase case using ANSYS Fluent is presented.
