ABSTRACT

The child must be protected against every form of exploitation. This chapter describes the different and parallel roles of the judicial authority in Italy in situations where children or minors are subjected to sexual abuse. Sexual abuse on children is reported to the public prosecutor's office and both the ordinary and the juvenile judicial authority. Sometimes the same parents may remove their child from disturbing relations, ensure assistance and support, including psychological, and/to make them feel their sympathy and solidarity. The most frequent case concerns one parent charging the other with sexual abuse on their child, during a conflicting separation process. In these cases, parents with highly narcissistic personalities, unable to bear the frustration of separation, seem willing to get revenge on their former partners by manipulating their child, to the point of contriving a fake sexual abuse by the other parent.
