ABSTRACT

Any region’s economic performance depends on several factors. First, the motives of the state that claims to provide for the economic development of its people. Here, it can be said that the British colonial state introduced institutions that at best benefited the metropolis. Second, the interaction of the colonial state with the people of the colony was based on the existing geographical conditions. Lastly, in this process certain sections of the society, particularly those in the lower strata suffered while some sections in the upper strata benefitted. In the light of this, the present book explains the impact of colonial institutions on Andhra’s agrarian economy.
