ABSTRACT
Beijing United Family Hospital (BUFH), a subsidiary of United Family Healthcare (UFH), opened in 1997 as a joint venture between Chindex Medical Limited and Beijing Union Technology Development Co. Ltd. UFH’s experience in learning and applying joint commission international standards to improve its quality program has laid a firm foundation for its rapid progress. The “international healthcare” feature of UFH has been acclaimed in the healthcare sector, which manifests as international doctors, patients, and insurance. With the diversity of staff cultural background, soon after UFH opened in 1998, the leadership realized that the distinction of medical education and training standards from different countries were reflected on the approach of frontline staff. As a private comprehensive hospital of moderate size, BUFH is less competent in trauma and burns than large tertiary-A hospitals in terms of experience, staffing and the number of emergency beds.
