ABSTRACT

Career coaching holds a special place in coaching experience because it is one of the most complex and interesting types of coaching. The process of reflecting on results, in itself, is very empowering, and owning one's identity is a useful developmental step. The challenge is presented to people in terms of individual levels of self-awareness about drivers. The chapter covers the themes are: personality, invisible drivers and values, age, personal branding, assessment centres, polymaths, working internationally, obliquity and transitions. The accessible language conveys contents that are based in research, theory, current scientific models and experiential findings. The history of humankind reflects the fact that since the dawn of time individuals and groups have strived to survive, achieve, improve and find meaning to life. The evolution of thinking on personality presents an interesting mix of biology, psychology and sociology, which focuses on heredity or learning and, to a degree, broadly places theories in the nature vs. nurture dichotomy.
