ABSTRACT

Self-help groups are defined as groups that are led by people in the same situations as other group members, such as a common experience, a medical condition, shared heritage, or a stressful life situation. These groups usually start as a few individuals who want the understanding and support of others with similar interests or challenges. Self-improvement and support are the main objectives of these groups. Members can give emotional, social, and practical support to each other. Members come together, without judgment, to provide an “instant identity” and community.
