ABSTRACT
A comparison between Elgar and Havergal Brian may at first sight seem strong to the casual observer, for the former is recognized as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, of all British composers and was widely regarded as such during his lifetime, while the latter, despite a long life and a prolific output, has always been an obscure figure and even now his music is known to relatively few concertgoers.
