ABSTRACT

When considering the effectiveness of an online system, it is generally on the area of response times that discussions eventually centre. It does not matter how sophisticated the software is, if response times are not satisfactory then operators lose faith in the system. Throughout this book there have been references to response times and the various elements within the system configuration which can affect them. These will act to some degree to guide the user of a Geac system through some of the options at their disposal. However, it is not possible within the confines of a book to examine the needs of any individual system or of systems as a whole. It is a matter for local determination.
