ABSTRACT

In Chapter 7, I explore how Thisness Presentism coheres with certain ideas about the openness of the future and the fixity of the past. I say that my view is consistent with different ways of capturing the asymmetry of openness and that this constitutes a point in favour of the view. In particular, I respond to another metaphysical objection to presentism from Joseph Diekemper that presentists are unable to account for the openness of the future given core commitments of presentism. I show that Thisness Presentism can account for the asymmetry of openness, contrary to Diekemper, and I note that this is another point in favour of my view.
