ABSTRACT

Chapter 10: The Multidimensional Model. Emerging from the case study research reported in previous chapters, this final chapter introduces the reader to the proposed conceptual model of a new pedagogical approach to ESP course design. The model has four levels and integrates skills of reading, listening, speaking and writing with a range of changing contextual factors, each of which has been explored in previous chapters: learner autonomy, genre, multimodality and digital literacies, plurilingual practices, and project-based/collaborative learning. Each of these dimensions, along with the detailed needs analysis, the available learning resources and the wider social context which students are learning within, demands adaptations to existing approaches or the generation of a new approach in ESP pedagogy. The chapter concludes by reviewing the need for future research to extend the insights gained from the case study research reported on in this book.
