ABSTRACT

Chapter 8: Plurilingual Practices. This chapter addresses how plurilingualism has become an important factor in workplace communication and in the academy. Strong arguments are now being made about the role of multiple languages in English language instruction, with ESP learners perhaps best seen as emerging multilinguals, rather than being strictly bound to ‘native speaker’ norms. The chapter describes an ethnographic study of students’ plurilingual practices in social media, which provide evidence of the complex linguistic practices of ESP learners engaged in teamwork projects.
