ABSTRACT

As its title suggests, this paper will be concerned with two themes: "theories of democracy" and "environmental problems". By "theories of democracy" I mean basic politico theoretic understandings of what democracy is, how it works, and why it should be of value to us. By "environmental problems" I mean the tangled knot of issues brought to the fore in the second half of the twentieth century by the ever increasing scale of the human impact on the non human natural world.
