ABSTRACT

The original idea for the formation of a Chemical Company at Ynysawdre Comprehensive School was stimulated by the introduction of the Chemical Industries Association (CIA) Link Scheme in South Wales. Members of the university education and science departments, industrialists and teachers were gathered to discuss the problems of the declining interest of sixth-formers especially in the field of science for industry and in the chemical industry in particular. A director was elected and other positions concerning research, development, publicity, market research, were also taken up by members of the group. Opinions of members of staff, especially those who were likely to be called upon for help, were sought. The opinions of the first year sixth form were also sounded out. Wholehearted approval was obtained from all people consulted and as a result the school cosmetic company was born. The project was taken up by the first-year sixth form with nothing but enthusiasm and some ideas.
