ABSTRACT

An action learning programme is, then, a rather special kind of learning experience. The action learning programme is an attractive — often glamorous — thing to have around, and many of the institution's staff want to be involved with it. Important as are the underlying concepts and methods of any programme none will succeed unless the organization is appropriately responsive. The typical programme participant was in the age range 28 to 38 — usually the most critical period in the manager's career development and progression. Dunchurch had two main roles to play in GEC's programme — one in its management and the other in providing an administrative and home focus point. Each role offered its own variety of stimulus. For the first it was one of an intellectual nature and for the second mostly organizational. Each provided quite different experiences and learning.
