ABSTRACT

In research literature and psychology textbooks there is a wide range of different terms used to describe young people displaying all forms of giftedness. Gifted abilities are also more likely to emerge when the individual’s talents coincide with what is valued by the culture. Gifted students may struggle in some subjects or activities, while they soar in others. It is important to carry out an evaluation with a professional who can identify the potential and the risk factors of the child. The assessment is multidimensional and can involve child, parents, and teachers. According to the lines that emerged from the evaluation, parents have task of supporting the child by activating care services. Once the child’s giftedness has been ascertained, the parent can share this information with the child and the teachers in order to activate a support network for the child’s growth. Information from teacher rating scales, parent reports, classroom artifacts, and observations provides a more comprehensive and in-depth viewpoint.
