ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to provide teachers, schools’ administrators and parents with an outline of services reviewed from the academic literature to be implemented in schools to allow gifted and talented students to express their full potential. Acceleration is an umbrella term that involves the school services necessary to meet the needs of gifted and talented students through advanced course placement, educational curriculum, experiences and opportunities. Renzulli’s Schoolwide Enrichment Model is a school organizational system that aims to develop creative productivity by allowing students to experience a variety of challenging activities based on their abilities, interests and learning styles. Whilst some studies have focused on the academic experiences of gifted students within enrichment programs, other studies have analyzed how these programs supported gifted students’ social and emotional functioning. Although cluster grouping is often associated with gifted education practice, it is important to underline that specific applications of cluster grouping consider how its use can benefit all students in the classroom.
