ABSTRACT

What is expected of a narrative designer while in a game development team? The roles are multifarious and require long hours of commitment. The narrative designer is not just a writer or designer; she is also a producer, project manager, and director. Their roles include identifying and building the nuts and bolts of the game as an intellectual property; helping to design the game’s golden path; establishing story structure; creating worlds and characters; developing rulesets for the mechanisms that deliver story; planning and managing what content needs to be written and how it’s implemented in the game; reinforcing the theme; writing and editing the content; leading the efforts in the localization and translation of the written and performed content; and assisting in the directing of film and audio content.
