ABSTRACT
Facilitation and CSCW are two powerful approaches to improve group performance, participation, and interaction especially for non-routinised work. Still, little effort has been spent on their integration that is not far beyond computer support for standard facilitation techniques.
We thoroughly discuss decision making in work groups, and the limitations of each approach in supporting this. Based on our encouraging experiences with facilitated computer-supported group design in the strictly non-routinised field of shift-scheduling we show that integration goes beyond small improvements of each approach. Task adequate knitting enables efficient work in groups where it has not been possible so far.
