ABSTRACT
The computer power which is at the heart of modern IT is just reaching its half century. An appropriate time perhaps to reflect on the issues which surround this technology and the Information Systems (IS) it enables, which have such a major impact on the workings of all organisations, and the lives of those who toil within them.
