ABSTRACT

New fully analog instruments are also appearing at a great rate, predominantly in the area of Eurorack and other modules, as it’s far easier and cheaper to create a small specialised module than a full scale polyphonic instrument. Meanwhile, software instruments become more and more versatile, though increasingly escaping from purely analog-style sound into much more exotic areas. Robert Moog had passed away in 2005, leaving Moog Inc. in healthy shape ready for a whole series of new product releases which continues to this day, notably the faithful re-manufacture in limited numbers of the original large Moog Modular systems. Fellow instrument designer, Don Buchla, passed away in 2016, leaving a son, Ezra, who performs around Los Angeles and elsewhere using viola, voice, and software. Most notably, 2015 also marked the passing of Edgar Froese, founder of Tangerine Dream, not long after the completion of an Australian tour. In 2016 the larger and very impressive-looking System-8 Plug-Out synthesizer was launched.
