ABSTRACT

In order to have a better understanding of the position of students with disabilities in higher education, it is necessary to know a little more about changes which have taken place in the education system as a whole in Spain. Students in the Faculty of Education Science, Special Education and Educational Psychology organised a debate on integration/inclusion in the University. The legal basis for the independence of the universities is the Organic Law of University Reform 1983. During the period of colonial expansion, universities were founded in Lima and in Mexico which made use of the Statutes of the University of Salamanca. The Ministry of Education and Science has devised guidelines for examination boards when considering the university entrance examinations and the participation of students with disabilities. Further co-operation could bring changes to making adapted living accommodation available and also the provision of adapted transport to be used for journeys to and from the university.
