ABSTRACT

In Germany, there are more than 300 institutions of higher education. Admission to the institutions of higher education in Germany is the same for applicants with a disability or chronic illness as for other students. Students with disabilities or chronic illnesses have a break from their studies once or twice during their degree course more often than the comparative group of students without a disability. Students with disabilities often need to spend considerable time and energy on the effort to apply for financial support from various authorities. Advice services are offered by various institutions and facilities for students with disabilities and chronic illnesses. The Advice Centre also collects and documents information material of interest to disabled people who are considering studying, to students with disabilities and to organisations and institutions actively providing counselling services for disabled students and/or university applicants.
