ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the contributions to curriculum development to be made by the disciplines of education, and show the integrating function of curriculum development activities. Curriculum development can be regarded as an integrative study in the sense that knowledge from the main disciplines of education is brought to bear in many aspects of curriculum planning. Certain aspects of educational psychology are not in dispute, however, and these can offer guide-lines and suggestions to teachers in curriculum planning. Knowledge of the sociology of education is also of value to teachers in their curriculum planning. It can help teachers, for instance, to analyse the possible future aspects of society which need to be taken into account in the selection of objectives. The kinds of social experiences pupils have result in their bringing something to the learning situation which teachers need to know and take into account in curriculum planning.
