ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the teachers' perspectives on some of the issues. It explores what the teachers were like who took posts in small schools and what their views were on their work. The chapter focuses on questionnaires and interviews. In an attempt to measure the degree of professional isolation of small school teachers (PRISMS), the chapter also explores a number of questions in the questionnaire about various aspects of this issue. Given the size of their schools, it was undoubtedly the case that PRISMS teachers had fewer colleagues within their own schools with whom they could exchange ideas. Describing the curriculum in small schools was a central aim of the PRISMS project. Although most of the material about the curriculum was collected by means of classroom observation, people also asked the teachers a range of questions on the subject in questionnaires and interviews.
