ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the work of teachers in Staffordshire schools in producing a set of booklets to help children involved with Science 5–13 and similar activities. It considers the similar work of a wider group of teachers preparing booklets for another national project—the Nuffield Working with Science Project—this time working mainly within rather than largely outside the project itself. The idea for a collection of booklets on the theme of children investigating stemmed from the work of a group of teachers in primary and in the lower end of secondary schools. Teachers' notes for each Unit and two teachers' guides were also written. The teachers in the schools not only determined the style of each Unit but also the style of response open to students. Teacher evaluation of the project was encouraged and it was suggested that teachers complete the questionnaire below to guide and inform their own judgment.
