ABSTRACT

In coming years green smart cities will create a huge impact on the environment and economy by joining the small- and large-scale businesses through digital technologies. Green smart agriculture is part of this scenario, creating a revolution in farming practices and crops. Not only are developed countries following this trend, but the developing nations have also realized its importance and have started practicing it. Counties like Japan and China already have started the deployment of information and communication technologies and Internet of things (IoT) systems on a large scale for the implementation of precision agriculture solutions rapidly. The governments of several countries like UK have also realized the need for this and have developed centers to facilitate these agriculture practices for the enhancement of the market and for creating a green smart agriculture environment. Such revolutionary changes in agriculture practices not only come with opportunities, but also have challenges which can prove to be a restraint in the growth of the market. To avoid these challenges, knowledge and awareness about newer agriculture technology needs to spread extensively among farmers, especially those of emerging countries. In that context, this chapter will provide a comprehensive study that encompasses the features and technologies required, together with the benefits and challenges of making green smart agriculture feasible.
