ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the applications of meso- and microstamping technologies in industries, and the detailed design and development activities. It presents the concerned issues in meso- and microstamping of the miniaturized sheet metal products for industrial applications. The meso- and microforming processes including meso- and microscaled stamping, embossing, punching, coining, extrusion, and progressive and compound bulk forming have been explored and developed. Material thinning, springback, wrinkle, and even fracture are prone to occur in meso- and microstamping processes, leading to poor forming precision and defective products. Design of microproducts for meso- and microstamping needs to consider the production issues, design for manufacturing, such that the design can be efficiently fabricated and the capability of the process can be fully employed and considered in upfront design stage. Meso- and microstamping technology offers a promising approach for a large-scale production of meso- and microproducts or the macroscale products with microscale features, such as chemical reaction, heat exchange application, mixing, and flow distribution.
