ABSTRACT

In a June 1, 2014, episode of Last Week Tonight, John Oliver focused on what he described as one of the most critical issues of modern technology: network neutrality. Government officials, industry leaders and other media outlets concluded that Oliver's segment had a profound effect on public opinion and knowledge of the network neutrality issue. Digital dialogic research has examined social media platforms, organizational websites and message forums. Mutual adjustment is identified when examining how journalistic coverage evolved following the impact of Oliver's segment. YouTube, like most other digital media platforms, is globally accessible to citizens around the world. This means that national association is impossible to reliably identify. The digital space blurs national boundaries and allows individuals from any background to comment or participate in the digital dialogic. The work of satire again is rarely instant as changes generally occur in incremental shifts. Viewers tune in to "watch the real be critiqued and transformed."
