ABSTRACT

Through the conceptual framework of the multiplicity, platform and issue centrality it has been possible to combine different methodologies, tools and theories, and the resulting complexity has been analysed. ‘Women’s issues’ has been used as an umbrella term since the 1970s to designate and frame specific problematic topics coinciding with new waves of feminist research and global solidarity. The women’s issues network has started to take shape through multiple and interconnected platforms: the discussions on linguistics, nation building and anti-colonial struggles, but also personal stories against a system of urban harems that felt too backward and the first manifestations of women’s activities and protests for their own rights. Although established in other areas of gender and women’s studies, the intermingling and intertwinement of technology, computational methods and women is underexplored when it comes to women and gender studies in a Middle Eastern context.
