ABSTRACT

The development of the model of worker's choices of residence location, workplace location, and housing tenure extends a similar model developed by Anas for the Chicago area called Chicago Area Transportation and Land Analysis System. The selection of Dallas-Fort Worth as a study area should provide useful insights into patterns of residential and workplace choice for several reasons. The data used in this study are derived from a special tabulation the 1980 Census Journey to Work internal Microdata, and provides a large sample of workers with the census tract location of both residence and workplace, and substantial demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of the workers. The data used in this study originate from a data file prepared by the Census Bureau for the 1980 Urban Transportation Planning Package. In order to most effectively analyze the choices of residence location, workplace location, and housing tenure, the sample used in model estimation was restricted to include workers employed full time in 1979.
