ABSTRACT

Chapter 2 explores language policy decisions related to English medium instruction at the national, institutional, and local levels. It addresses elements that drive the EMI process forward and the impact of decision-making procedures on shaping the attitudes and actions of the various stakeholders. The concept of parallel language use, i.e., the division of labor for English and the local native language in relation to specific needs and local context factors, and the concern for possible domain loss for the local language is discussed.
