ABSTRACT

Camphill exists as a number of individual house communities dotted around three model village estates in the countryside surrounding a Scottish city. Walking around these estates one has a clear sense of the European origins of the community – where grey, granite stone prevails in the nearby city, within the community there is a preponderance of natural woods and Swiss-style, white-painted house fronts. Although in the case of normal children one is largely unaware of this incarnating activity taking place, this does not apply with handicapped children, since, for one reason or another, their spirit forces have been unable to enter into their physical body correctly. Although it is relatively easy to show the sense of bewilderment a new arrival may feel in the community, it is also the case that many of the routines and activities that seemed odd or strange at first very quickly became an accepted and even welcomed part of one’s day.
