ABSTRACT

This chapter suggests that a way of explaining the popularity of pre-sale arrangements from the buyer's perspective. It argues the manner in which the circulation of commodities and capital is organised within pre-sale system of housing production. The chapter provides some testimony from particular house buyers and their experience of pre-sale purchases. Under pre-sale arrangements house buyers have already signed the contract of purchase before the houses are completed. The other main problem which many pre-sale buyers face is that the actual area of the housing unit may be smaller than that shown during the promotion. Pre-sale promotions feature a temporary sample house, building models and advertisements. Incorrect information given about the housing units during promotion is typical in the pre-sale market and sales agents commonly use untrue information about prices and the mortgage to attract the house buyers.
