ABSTRACT

Storytelling has grown beyond a way of providing amusement and imparting knowledge. It has become a method by which explicit and implicit knowledge can be passed on in the form of metaphors. The storytelling method is applied in various fields, such as in businesses, in advertising, or in psychotherapy. Insights and experiences are carried in the form of stories that speak to listeners in their individual “worlds”; listeners can then directly build them in to their own range of experience. This chapter looks at how stories are composed and how storytelling can be used in training and presentations. Additionally, improvisational theatre represents a rich source of experiences and exercises, as it requires that stories be made up on the spot, on the stage.
