ABSTRACT

Neoliberalism interferes with business people’s efforts to see the world from the viewpoint of the community and the common good that are prioritized in feminism. Postfeminism is a cultural response to the challenges feminism has posed and the progress feminism has made. Feminist advocacy includes actions that range from speaking up about gender equality initiatives, to using one’s organizational role to support individual women, feminists, and change agents, to teaching others about feminism, and more. Advocacy can be protective of women’s interests or serve as resistance to specific sexist norms and events. Feminist advocates in the workplace are often “tempered radicals”, individuals who are committed both to their organization’s success and to a cause that challenges the dominant culture of their organization. Employee activists leverage a larger cultural conversation, as well as examples set in other businesses, to strengthen their hand as they propose gender equality initiatives to their companies.
