ABSTRACT

The village is in a reasonably prosperous farming area, but historically most farms were rather small. In fact the village grew noticeably in the early 1970s, with a number of new small family homes being built on what had until then been a grazing field in its middle. The builder was an entrepreneur who had risen from modest beginnings to become, by local standards, quite wealthy. The village has a little over 200 inhabitants. Its main enterprise, employing a fair number of villagers, was for a long time a small brick factory, which could make use of the excellent local clay. Its tall chimney was the most visible landmark, but the factory closed in the early 1970s, and the chimney was torn down.
