ABSTRACT

The procedure as such has advantages: A result is available even before the pregnancy is in utero; problems like conventional prenatal diagnosis, its abortion risk and an eventual late termination of the pregnancy do not arise. This means for the couple and the medical professional: no pregnancy on probation! Only a genetically normal embryo (with respect to the particular disease under consideration) is implanted. The overall general risk of 3-5 % for inborn mental and/or physical disabilities of course remains! So the aim cannot be to implantate an absolutely normal embryo, but a normal embryo concerning the particular disease.
