Issues surrounding preimplantation diagnosis and germline gene therapy

Biotechnological advances are making it easier to perform preimplantation diagnosis (PID) for an ever increasing number of genetic characteristics at earlier and earlier stages subsequent to fertilisation. As always occurs with any new technological advance that has clear and important implications for our society, PID is raising a plethora of views from different quarters of the social spectrum.
