ABSTRACT

In cultivating faith, one is supposed to aim at certainty, but if one were to achieve certainty, one would no longer think - rightly or wrongly – that one had faith, but think one had knowledge. There has been an ancient controversy concerning whether faith or works are necessary for salvation. God's omniscience and omnipotence do not favour either the doctrine that one is saved by faith or the doctrine that one is saved by works. If salvation is a natural consequence of leading the right kind of life – that is, not the morally right kind of life, but the appropriate kind of life to lead to achieve salvation - Heaven and Hell, regarded as states of mind in this world, would be affected by one's overall health. There has been supposed to be an intimate connection between faith, works and grace.
