ABSTRACT

IBM announced advanced interactive executive (AIX) computer aided systems engineering (CASE) shortly after they publicised their RS/6000 RISC-based machines and a new version of the UNIX operating system, AIX version 3. Each of the AIX CASE solutions allows users to integrate their existing tools, which can be added using the following additional components: interleaf technical publishing software; token ring and Ethernet LANs; and Atherton technologies’ offerings - software backplane and IPSE. AIX CASE provides the following areas of support: process management; project management; configuration management; documentation management; and editors. AIX CASE is an open environment which takes advantage of UNIX cross life cycle support tools. AIX CASE may not have the publicity behind it that has made application development cycle almost a household name, but IBM UNIX users should find it of more practical value than its better known ‘rival’.
