ABSTRACT

This chapter provides the effective procedures to utilize a Child Welfare Education Liaison (CWEL) position to the fullest potential without a significant increase in CWEL workload. The creation and implementation of these procedures are a collaborative initiative between child welfare and juvenile justice. Through the collaborative work in the action team, the CWEL can start with the sample and then modify these procedures to fit the need and resources. If the youth is not removed from home and is involved with in-home services through child welfare, the home school district CWEL notifies the current school and triggers any supports necessary to ensure the youth stays engaged and academically progresses. If home school is a special education placement in a day treatment setting determined by home district of youth, then home district should already be providing transportation to the day treatment facility.
