Studies continue to show that “enrollment in school and academic achievement is associated with lower rates of reoffending and better outcomes into adulthood, and degree attainment is strongly associated with future earning potential”. Engagement in education is a top protective factor to prevent recidivism and it is important to future success for foster care students once they leave the child welfare system. In Douglas County, Colorado, the Educational Action Team is in place to implement the framework described in County guide with the involvement of many major government agencies with the local school district. Collaborated goals and indicators of success in addition to an action plan for committee; and utilize data and outcomes to guide policy, practice, and resource allocation. Engagement in education is a top protective factor to prevent recidivism and it is important to future success for foster care students once they leave the child welfare system.
