ABSTRACT

Video has a particular relevance to people with learning disabilities and their services. Intellectually disabled people face barriers in accessing information which is important to them, and which will often be in a format that they cannot easily understand. For better or worse, television and video provide a common reference point or shared source of experience. Video can be useful for staff and others. Sometimes it is important that care and support is given in a particular way. Resources required will depend to some extent on the type and volume of video production to be undertaken. Video production is time-consuming. Besides the time needed to film there is a need to reconnoitre the film location and plan the filming. Editing is often a lengthy process depending on the type of finished product desired and whether graphics, photos, and so on are to be included. Video involves making a record of people's actions and circumstances.
