ABSTRACT

Technology is one of the most ubiquitous features of the early education classroom, but it is also one of its most contentious. Technology is found in every area of the education process, and it’s not going away any time soon. There is at least one computer for every five students in US public schools, which spend more than $3 billion per year on digital content alone. Educators and administrators play a vital role in implementing guidelines and limits on technology use in the school setting. A key consideration in using technology in the classroom is ensuring that the technology is accessible to everyone involved. To foster creative productivity, teachers should select and encourage technology experiences that allow children to create and produce, rather than passively consume. Technology can be used in the classroom to foster a sense of community among the children, between the teachers and the children’s families, and among educators.
