ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on a project planned by Barbara Gerstenberger, European Metalworkers' Federation, and Lidija Jerkie, Slovenian Metal and Electric Industry Union. The project turned out as a project dealing with law and empowerment of a social group that was discriminated against, or at least threatened by discrimination. The specifics of the original Bremen legal education influenced the approach to the Slovenian project Slovenia was the most western republic of former Yugoslavia, both in geographical and cultural terms. It borders Italy, Austria, Hungary, Croatia, and, for a small distance, the Mediterranean Sea. Its capital is Ljubljana, with a quarter of a million inhabitants. Altogether Slovenia has a population of about 2 million. In May 1992, Slovenia became a permanent member of the United Nations. The situation for working women in Slovenia seems quite good in comparison with the situation in other countries which are oriented towards market economy.
