ABSTRACT

We comprehensively review the empirical research pertaining to individual-level sustainability issues within the organizational context. Our survey of papers published from 2005 to the present spanned 50 leading management and relevant niche journals, and uncovered 65 studies meeting our search criteria. We systematically document and structure the relevant research, and analyse the key trends and themes emerging from this work. We further assess the current state of knowledge to determine what evidence-based conclusions can be drawn to inform sustainable management practice. Finally, we identify knowledge gaps and suggest productive opportunities for future research. Our review provides a reference resource for micro-level sustainability scholars and those interested in more effectively managing employees for sustainability.
